Assassin's Creed Unveils Bizarre AoT Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a unexpected crossover event that challenges traditional predictions, the game developer has revealed an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, providing no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Disclosed
According to the official release, "A strange confrontation leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome changes echo through the obscurity." The storyline features a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who tasks the pair with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a important location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her companion from a clandestine sect.
The mission focuses on "bizarre experiments and a fearsome foe" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Familiar Settings and Changes
The teaser features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was previously where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview concludes with a dramatic moment showing a character, presumably the captive, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.
Exclusive Items and Additional Features
Players who successfully complete the adventure will acquire an exclusive katana alongside several items secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps steed
Third Free Story Content
This patch also adds the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Mystery." This humorous quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive abilities: Naoe introduces a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some lingering questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Crossovers
This represents scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime properties. The series earlier included a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
